Construction methods

The Sundet I and II areas’ first phase buildings were constructed with prefabricated space elements factory-manufactured according to EKE’s designs. The completed elements were transported to Sundsberg where they were installed in a single day on a concrete foundation. A roof element already waiting at the site was hoisted over the nearly completed house, which was ready for its commissioning inspection within a few weeks.

Thanks to the new construction technology, the pace of on-site labour has clearly accelerated, and most of the actual building can be carried out indoors. From the standpoint of overall liveability, it is highly advantageous that residents living in dwellings already built in the same area can live comfortably without the typical atmosphere of a construction site. EKE’s construction method is also environmentally friendly because less waste is created than in on-site building. The Sundet II area’s second stage will be constructed partially with space element technology.

The prefabricated space element system protects the structural components from wetness and moisture damage. At EKE quality control is emphasised throughout the entire working process, which is significantly easier that on-site construction.

In use are the latest technologies, such as heat recovery, that save living expenses. Heating has been implemented using economical and environmentally friendly natural gas. EKE’s interior designer has prepared interior designs for dwellings, and customers acting approximately 10 weeks before the delivery of the house to the site can choose various material and furnishing alternatives to suit their preferences. The dwellings’ standard interior materials and furnishings are high quality, beautiful and practical.
